Roll up to the Transport Open Day at Lismore

A TRANSPORT Open Day is being held at Lismore Visitor Information Centre today for taxi drivers, service station staff, bus drivers, airport and car hire staff.

A TRANSPORT Open Day is being held at Lismore Visitor Information Centre today to help taxi drivers, service station staff, bus drivers, airport and car hire staff get a taste of all the Northern Rivers has to offer tourists.

Lismore City Council's Visitor Services Coordinator Andrew Walker said the Transport Open Day was designed to ensure people ferrying tourists around the Northern Rivers and serving their needs know how to point them in the right direction for things to see, explore and discover.

"Often a bus or taxi driver is the first person a tourist speaks to - we want them to have the right knowledge and resources so they can encourage visitors to experience our natural wonders and take advantage of our many attractions," Mr Walker said.

"We have an amazing array of events such as the Lantern Parade and Eat the Street, the capital of alternative living at Nimbin and the ancient forests of Mt Warning all on our doorstep.

This region offers visitors a really unique experience and members of the transport industry are best-placed to sell our beautiful region to tourists.

"We want to make sure transport workers feel empowered to encourage visitors to stay a little longer and spend a little more, which is good for the economy and our region as a whole."

The Transport Open Day is being held from 9am to 4pm with all transport and associated tourism operators and service providers invited to come and familiarise themselves with visitor information and resources, and get to know the Lismore Visitor Information Centre staff.

Andrew said all attendees would walk away with a gift bag to help them spruik the Northern Rivers as well as a greater understanding of the special place we live in and why it is so popular as a tourist destination.

"It's easy to forget when you live here just how lucky we are and that we really do live in one of the most attractive places on Earth," Mr Walker said.

"We want to ensure all our local transport providers know where the Lismore Visitor Information Centre is and for them to be able to act as Visitor Centre ambassadors."
