A senior Richmond Police District officer said the drivers involved a crash between a sedan and a motorcycle on Bruxner Highway near Wollongbar around 12.50am yesterday are “very lucky” to be alive.
On Tuesday May 18, Acting Inspector Claude Toskin said the incident involving a car and a motorcycle near the intersection of Lindendale Rd and Bruxner Hwy on Monday May 17 shortly before 1pm could have been extremely serious with tragic results.
According to Ambulance NSW, the motorcyclist, 80, was treated for a hand and head injury and was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a “serious but stable condition”.
The driver was treated for check at the scene ad was also transported to Lismore Base Hospital.
Act Insp Toskin said officers investigating the crash have been able to review the CCTV provided by the Shell service station at the intersection.
“It looks like a vehicle failed to give way to a motorcyclist when the car left the service station,” he said.
“My understanding is that the sedan turned right to head along Bruxner Hwy in an easterly direction towards Ballina and has then collided with the motorcycle.
“Everyone involved is terribly lucky.”
Act Insp Toskin said officers from Ballina Police were still investigating the incident.
