Man dies after being found unconscious in Holden Lane at Ballina

A man who was found unconscious in downtown Ballina has died in hospital. Homicide detectives are working to find out how he sustained serious head injuries.

Police are investigating the death of a 54-year-old man in Ballina at the weekend.

A police spokesman said the man had died in hospital on Sunday after being found unconscious in Holden Lane about 5pm Saturday.

Paramedics treated the man for serious head injuries before taking him to Lismore Base Hospital in a critical condition.

The man died on Sunday.

Officers from Richmond Police District and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are investigating the man’s death and how he came to be injured.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from Holden Lane, Tamar Street or Martin Street between midday and 5pm on Saturday to contact Ballina Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
