Lismore mum Tahlia Grace angry after rock attack at Goonellabah

A young mum says action must be taken after a barrage of sticks and rocks was unleashed on cars as they stopped at a red light on a major road leading into Lismore.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

Lismore mum Tahlia Grace says residents should not have to ignore random attacks such as the terrifying incident she endured while driving home from birthday celebrations.

Ms Grace, 20, said she was driving back from Ballina when she noticed a group of young people at the traffic lights in front of Goonellabah Public School, on the Bruxner Highway, about midnight on Saturday.

“There was a really young boy and maybe four or five other girls,” Ms Grace said.

She said the young boy was repeatedly pushing the crossing button before the lights turned red and she stopped beside another vehicle that was driven by a man.

She said the young people started hurling rocks, sticks, a bottle and basically anything they could find at their cars.

“We ended up having to go through the red light,” Ms Grace said.

“It was pretty scary.”

She said she and the other driver went a bit further up the road before pulling over to call police.

She said an officer told her a patrol would be sent out.

“I’ve got a few scratches and a couple of dents on the driver’s side door,” she said.

She also had a small crack in her windscreen.

“The other guy had a crack in his driver’s side window.”

Her dog Koda was in the car with her at the time.

She was just grateful her young son was not in the car too.

“The young boy who kept pressing the button, he was so tiny,” she said.

“It is going too far now.

She said people could not keep ignoring it.

“There needs to be tougher consequences for s*** like this.”

A police spokesman said officers responded to an anonymous complaint of anti-social behaviour along the Bruxner Highway at Goonellabah about 2am Sunday.

He said officers patrolled the area but did not see anyone.

He said no formal complaint had been made.
