A man who allegedly led police on a pursuit across the North Coast and evaded four sets of road spikes will face court.
Officers attached to Richmond and Tweed/Byron Police Districts, Far North Traffic and Highway Patrol and the Northern Rivers Region Enforcement Squad were notified of a Mitsubishi Pantech truck – believed to have been stolen from a business near Brisbane last Saturday – was travelling north on the Pacific Highway at West Ballina about 11am on Monday.
Officers initiated a pursuit, whereby road spikes were successfully deployed four times as the truck continued north.
Police will allege the truck approached Chinderah, it crossed to the wrong side of the road and came to a stop a short distance away.
The driver, a 29-year-old man, from the Queensland suburb of Bethania, was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.
He was charged with not stopping and driving dangerously in a police pursuit, stealing a motor vehicle, possessing a prohibited drug, driving recklessly with a speed or manner dangerous and being a never licensed person driving a vehicle.
The man was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Tuesday.
