Khalil Tighe pleads guilty at Casino court to common assault

A Yamba man who chased his girlfriend down the street and punched her in the head while yelling abuse has faced court.
Khalil Tighe, 20, pleaded guilty at Casino Local Court to domestic violence related charges of common assault. He pleaded not guilty to domestic violence related intimidation.
Tighe – who is now living in Yamba – and the victim were staying together in Casino when they got into an argument at about 8.30am on September 14, 2021.
Tighe began yelling at the victim, and became “very aggressive” towards her, police facts stated
“Fearing the accused would assault her, the victim has then left the premises and began running south along Diary Street, Casino,” police facts stated.
Tighe was witnessed chasing his girlfriend down the street, yelling her name.
The victim then turned east onto Canterbury Street, Casino, with Tighe following her.
Tighe then approached the victim and pretended to punch her with his right hand without making contact, police will allege.
She crossed the street to get away, but Tighe followed and punched her “three or four times in the side of the head using the closed fist of his left hand”, police facts stated.
Throughout the assault Tighe continued to yell at the victim.
A witness of the attack called police, and told Tighe to sit in the gutter and wait for them to arrive.
Tighe is charged with common assault domestic violence related and stalk or intimidation with intent to cause fear of mental or physical harm.
Magistrate Michael Dakin adjourned the matter to December 5 for sentence.
