James Kevin Wilson pleads guilty at Casino court to common assault, breaching AVO

‘I didn’t do anything’, a man told police before they’d even raised the issue of a street assault at Casino. But he pleaded guilty all the same - see how.

An unemployed Casino man kicked his former partner to the ground in a public street after they met to exchange material possessions in the wake of their bust-up.

James Kevin Wilson, 21, pleaded guilty at Casino Local Court on Thursday October 6 to common assault – domestic violence related, and intentionally breaching an apprehended violence order.

The victim was parked on the roadway next to Coronation Park, in Lennox Street, at about midday on September 4, waiting for Wilson to arrive and return her bank card after their break-up the night before.

When Wilson arrived, an argument started over property they still had of one another’s, and according to police, Wilson told the victim “I’ll burn all your stuff”.

Police allege Wilson kicked the woman - who had turned away from him - in the back, knocking her to the Lennox Street pavement.

Wilson then drove away, while the incident was witnessed by a member of the public at the park, police stated.

Officers attended Coronation Park shortly later and found the victim crying and holding her left side.

About 90 minutes after the assault, police arrested Wilson at his home.

Before officers could talk to him about the allegations, Wilson said to police “I know why you’re here, I didn’t do anything”, court documents stated.

When police told Wilson there was a witness, he said: “I went there because we agreed to exchange her cards for my clothes in her car, but when I got there she refused and she ran at me with her fist raised. Did your witness see that?”

Wilson was not legally represented and magistrate Michael Dakin adjourned the matter to November 10 for sentence so that Wilson could obtain the services of a solicitor.
