Jake William Saville sentenced after threatening to slit mothers’ throat, chop her up

A man who threatened to slit his own mothers’ throat has learned his fate in court after claiming he ‘found god’. Here’s what happened.

A Northern Rivers man who threatened to slit his mum’s throat and get her chopped up before turning to religion has faced the music.

Jake William Saville, 28, was sentenced to a two-year community corrections order, 100 hours of community service and his license was also disqualified in Lismore Local Court on Monday after the vile threats were made last year.

Saville previously pleaded guilty to intimidation after he phoned his mother in July and September, 2022, leaving her fearing for her life, the court heard.

Saville told her: “I’m going to get someone to chop you up” and “I’m going to slit your throat”, according to police documents.

The court heard Saville was using drugs at the time of the offending, which had influenced his actions.

But Saville had since “found god”, the court was told, and he was now on the path to rehabilitation.

Saville’s solicitor, Kim Ivosevac, said the offender had abstained from drugs and alcohol which had improved his relationships and he “appeared committed” to that path.

The court heard Saville was living in a caravan park near Kyogle, and was doing some work as a concreter.

Saville was also sentenced for driving during licence disqualification period, using an unregistered and registrable car on a road and using an uninsured car on a road after he was pulled over in a Toyota Camry in October last year for a broken tail-light.

The court heard Saville had a criminal history of drug offending, domestic violence and driving offences.

Despite his familiarity with the inside of a courtroom, Magistrate Michael Dakin said Saville had good prospects of rehabilitation if he could stay off the drugs.
