A Northern Rivers man who threatened to slit his mum’s throat and get her chopped up claims to have turned to religion.

Jake William Saville, 28, faced Lismore Local Court pleading guilty to intimidation intending fear of harm (domestic violence) after the threats were made.

The court heard on Tuesday the offending related to two occasions in which Saville phoned his mum and left her fearing for her life.

Saville told her: “I’m going to get someone to chop you up” and “I’m going to slit your throat”, according to police documents.

Saville was living in Upper Horseshoe Creek, near Kyogle, at the time of the offending..

He experienced homelessness and battled alcoholism around the time of the offending.

But Saville had since “found god”, the court was told.

Saville also pleaded guilty to driving during licence disqualification period, using an unregistered and registrable car on a road and using an uninsured car on a road.

Saville was driving down Barling St in Casino in a Toyota Camry on October 29 last year when he was pulled over by police because one of the vehicle’s tail lights was out.

“Checks on the licence revealed that the accused’s driver’s licence was disqualified by the court due to being a habitual offender,” police facts stated.

Saville will remain on bail ahead of sentencing on March 27.
