Evans Head police pursuit: Four charged over dangerous stunt
Road spikes had to be used during the high speed chase from Newrybar to Evans Head. The 17-yr-old driver was on his L-plates according to police.

Four teenagers who allegedly led police on a dangerous chase through the North Coast have been charged.
Officers attached to Richmond Highway Patrol were travelling on the M1 Motorway at Newrybar when they detected a white Mazda utility exceeding the sign posted speed limit, at about 5pm on Sunday.
Checks revealed the vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a home at Old Bar on New Year’s Day.
The driver allegedly failed to stop as directed by police, and a pursuit was initiated from Newrybar to Evans Head.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to the manner of driving.
A second pursuit was initiated before road spikes were successfully deployed at Woodburn-Evans Head Road, Woodburn, near the M1 Motorway overpass.
Police allege that when the vehicle stopped, all four occupants fled the scene on foot, before the driver and the front seat passenger were arrested.
The remaining two passengers were located a short time later and arrested at Woodburn.
All four occupants were taken to Lismore Police Station.
The driver, 17, was charged with police pursuit driving dangerously, exceeding the speed limit over 45km/h, being an unaccompanied learner not displaying L plates, driving a conveyance without consent of the owner and breach of bail.
His learner’s licence was suspended.
The passengers, aged 19 and two 15-year-old boys, were each charged with being carried in conveyance without consent of owner.
One of the teenage boys was also charged with shoplifting.
All three boys were refused bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday.
The man appeared at Lismore Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Byron Bay Local Court on Monday January 10, 2022.
