Robert James Booth refused bail on assault charge after Kyogle man dies

A man has been refused bail on assault and affray charges after police found an unconscious man who later died at a NSW northern rivers home.

A man has been refused bail on assault and affray charges after police found an unconscious man who later died at a NSW northern rivers home.

Robert James Booth, 57, was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and affray at Casino police station after a 49-year-old man was found unconscious and later died at a home on Irwin St in Kyogle on Monday morning.

“Officers attached to Richmond Police District arrived to find that a 49-year-old man was unconscious with assault injuries,” a NSW Police statement read.

“He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

“Police will allege in court the 56-year-old assaulted the 49-year-old on Sunday, April 13 following a verbal altercation.”

Booth was arrested on Highfield Rd in Kyogle on Monday afternoon after the younger man died and charged.

He is not charged with any offences pertaining to the younger man’s death.

Booth appeared in Lismore Local Court on Tuesday, and was refused bail by Magistrate Michael Dakin.

His next court appearance is listed for April 28.
