A Byron Bay girl and a Ballina man have been charged after guns were allegedly found during a random police stop at Casino on the North Coast.
Richmond Police District officers stopped a Suzuki SUV on Canterbury St about 1.30am on Thursday.
They spoke to a 30-year-old man driving the car and a 17-year-old girl travelling as a passenger.
“During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized several items of interest including two firearms, ammunition, and $2350 cash,” police alleged in a statement.
“The driver and passenger were arrested before being taken to Casino Police Station.”
The teen girl has been charged with 11 offences including two counts of possessing an unregistered firearm, two counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm, two counts of possessing an unregistered firearm in a public place, possessing a shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possessing ammunition without holding a licence and acquiring a firearm part without authority to do so.
She was refused bail to face Children’s Court on Friday.
The man is due to face Casino Local Court on November 23, charged with driving on a suspended licence, using an unregistered car, using an uninsured car and using a car on the road without paying vehicle tax.
