A Woolies night manager viciously bashed a woman after getting wine-drunk after work and crashing his car doing “skids” before assaulting police and spitting in an officer’s face.
Bailey Jacob Brauman-Frail pleaded guilty at Lismore Local Court on Monday 1 to three counts of common assault, one count of intentionally choking a person with recklessness, two counts of assaulting a police officer, and charges of resisting a police officer and damaging property.
On March 30, the 21-year-old South Lismore man went to a Casino address after he finished work shortly after midnight.
After polishing off about 15 standard drinks in less than two hours, Frail got into his car and proceeded to do “skids” on wet and slippery roads before crashing his car into a pole.
Frail then put his fist through the backdoor glass window of the victim’s home because it was locked – spraying blood all over the floor and walls.
He then yelled abuse at a woman inside, before choking her with both hands so she could not breathe – leaving finger shaped bruises on her neck – and covering her with blood from his cut hand.
The accused then chased the victim around the house, punching and kicking her.
The victim managed to push Frail off and flee outside and call police.
The woman was “flushed and in shock, unable to form full sentences” when officers arrived, according to court documents.
The victim led police into the house, at which point Frail - seeing officers with the victim - grabbed her in a headlock and began attempting to punch her.
Police pulled him off the woman, and Frail wrestled with the officers before he was arrested and taken to Casino Police Station.
Shortly after he vomited in a cell, and police noticed he had keys on him which two officers tried to confiscate.
However he resisted and two other police officers joined the fray, at which point Frail spat blood and saliva into the face of one of the officers.
Due to his “intoxication and behaviour”, police took Frail to Casino Memorial Hospital where he “remained highly aggressive”.
Police handcuffed him to a hospital bed to protect hospital staff, but Frail started “aggressively kicking the handrails and medical equipment”.
Frail then – while still handcuffed – stood up on the hospital bed before “jumping up and down and screaming out”.
Police put him back on the bed and handcuffed his other arm as well, but Frail continued to resist.
“While kicking, the accused looked at one of the police officers, drew back his leg and kicked out at the officer, kicking the officer with the heel of his foot to the top of the officer’s thigh, causing pain,” agreed facts said.
Frail remains on bail and is to be sentenced at Lismore Local Court on June 19.
