LISMORE City Council is warning parkers to do the right thing or face a hefty fine with the introduction of a new ticket parking scheme in the Kirkland Riviera Car Park this Friday.

The council are planning to erect meters and signage tomorrow before the first day of operation on Friday, from which date parkers will be asked to purchase a ticket ($2) for the 2-hour parking area.

An infringement sign will be clearly visible telling people all the naughty things they shouldn't do and people will face $99 fines if found to be breaking the rules, Lismore City Council Compliance Officer Matt Kelly said.

"We think $2 is a reasonable price and we would encourage people to please respect and use the new ticketing system," Mr Kelly said.

"We do not want to see people getting big or unnecessary fines and it's easy to avoid by simply buying a ticket and doing the right thing."

Revenue raised from the new ticketing scheme will ultimately help fund adopted Imagine Lismore projects, Mr Kelly said.
