Page councils to receive almost $29 million in Federal funds

COUNCILS in Page will receive almost $29 million combined under the Australian Government’s Financial Assistance Grant programme, it has been announced today.

Page MP Kevin Hogan explained that the Federal Government is providing $2.3 billion to local councils nationwide in 2014-15 alone, including $715.7 million to NSW councils.

Out of that $2.3 billion, councils in Page will receive a total of $28,796,933 this financial year: Ballina Shire Council will receive $3,717,750, Clarence Valley Council $10,255,398, Kyogle Shire Council $3,896,552, Lismore City Council $6,244,268 and Richmond Valley Council will receive $4,682,965.

"The Coalition Government is committed to supporting local communities to deliver the services and facilities they need," Mr Hogan said.

"We will deliver a further $9.3 billion to Local Governments from 2014-15 to 2018-19 through the Financial Assistant Grants programme to deliver services and build community infrastructure.

"Councils are free to spend this untied-grant funding according to local priorities, including on infrastructure, health, recreation, environment, employment and roads projects."

"I am looking forward to seeing our local councils target local priorities with this funding, along with additional funding provided by the Federal Government under the Roads to Recovery, Black Spot and Bridges Renewal programmes."
