THE new Lismore Regional Gallery has seen 32,784 visitors since its opening four months ago.

During this time 10 exhibitions have displayed 128 artists' work.

Director Brett Adlington said the figures show the new facility has been well received and is being well utilised.

"There is a whole new audience of people, from across the region and further afield, who are coming to explore our new facility,” Mr Adlington said.

The gallery's programming has been intentionally varied, with the presentation of a number of projects recognising Bundjalung land, as well as work by leading local and emerging artists.

"We've also presented work by major international contemporary artists such as Anish Kapoor and Rudolf Stingel, and backed that up with an exhibition of work by European old masters such as Rembrandt, Picasso, Goya, Chagall and Renoir,” Mr Adlington said.

"There has also been a whole range of activity throughout the gallery with regular artist talks including weekly viewings of The Hannah Cabinet, and the launch of a monthly discussion series with Southern Cross University called Thursday Night Live.”

"This is just the beginning - our program of events and talks will grow throughout 2018.”

A partnership between Southern Cross University and Lismore City Council jointly funds the work of Marisa Snow, the Lismore Quadrangle Placemaking Officer, who has implemented a program of events, installations and performances including live music, community events and artist residencies.
