Having lived in the Northern Rivers for more than 30 years Ms Worrall said she initially just wanted to run cake stalls but realised she needed refrigeration to preserve her specialty cakes so she moved into the Embassy Arcade.
“I love this arcade,” she said.
“I thought … I’ll get a little shop and run a cake stall out of that.”
Located in the Embassy Arcade, off Keen Street, Ms Worrall creates her selection of boutique buttercream cupcakes, baked treats and one-off cake creations.
Getting ready to open
The Hotel Metropole
Nickolas Lake and Warrick Edwards are teaming up to bring new life into an iconic Lismore nightspot that has been closed for several years.
Nickolas Lake of Nickel Energy in Lismore bought the building formerly known as ‘The Hub’ and ‘The Standard’ to revamp Lismore Pubs’ live music scene and night-life.
“I bought the building from Donald Yung, a man that had owned it for many years,” Mr Lake said.
“When people remember the music scene in Lismore in her heyday, it was such an amazing time with incredible artists.
“We think it’s time that Lismore has that back.”
Bangalow Pub licensee Warrick Edwards said the fit-out is going well with plans to reopen as the Metropole Hotel.
Crews are onsite building a larger, greener kitchen to service a full restaurant with an a la carte menu, an outdoor alfresco dining area out the back and rooftop cocktail bar at the front overlooking Keen Street.
Re-opening after lockdowns
East Side Vibes
For locals, Kemal Osmanhodzic is the driving force behind Il Carretto, Sourdough Woodfired Pizza.
He serves up some serious gourmet bites from his roaming van but now the father of four has put down roots in East Lismore.
“I’ve taken over the lease here and we’ve just had our signs done,” he said.
“I chose this spot because I want to bring cafe culture to the suburbs.”
East Side Vibes is offering take away service from 7am to 2pm.
“We use local produce and make everything in house,” Mr Osmanhodzic said.
East Side Vibes brings to the table gourmet cafe style eats, treats and coffee.
Mel’s Melting Moments
Lismore resident and business owner Mel Connell said she chose to set up her shop here on the corner of the Warina Walk Arcade because she has a strong connection to the site.
“I used to work down here a long, long time ago, so when I saw the shop come up I just had to have it.”
Ms Connell has been working the markets scene for some time and said it was great to have a shopfront.
“It has frontage and it also has the side where there is a great kid’s store.”
A cheerful space to tantalise your senses, Mel’s Melting Moments has an assortment of ornaments, candles, crystals, essential oils, and novelties as well as gift packs.
La Trouvaille ~ French, noun; a chance encounter with something wonderful
After 26 years travelling the globe with her husband Michael, Lisa returned home to the Northern Rivers to start jewellery brand OXUS with her sister.
The business expanded into La Trouvaille and is now located in the Star Court Arcade.
Formerly a draughtswoman in the construction industry this is the first time Mrs Lamarre has gone into retail.
“When this shop came up, I jumped,” she said.
Although the couple opened their shop during Covid Mrs Lamarre said it felt right.
“I created a jewellery brand and was selling online at the time.
“The idea evolved from that.”
La Trouvaille is a French inspired boutique store with jewellery, candles, fashion accessories, homewares, menswear, women's fashion clothing and swimwear.
