THE first DA to be submitted to Lismore Council in the new ‘eco-tourism’ category is causing some consternation for councillors.

THE first DA to be submitted to Lismore Council in the new 'eco-tourism' category is causing some consternation for councillors.

The DA has been lodged by Peter Clark who wants to construct three "glamping" (glamour camping) tents on his property at Corndale. The tents would be about 11 metres by five metres with a solid timber floor, a small kitchen and bathroom.

Mr Clark said he hoped to attract visitors from out of the area looking for a "rural, farming experience" and plans to incorporate produce from his vegie gardens and orchards into the camping experience.

But as it is the first application for an eco-tourism facility since the 2012 LEP came into effect, Lismore Council is acutely aware that they need to set clear guidelines and future policy direction when considering this application.

The council's manager of development and compliance, Peter Jeuken, said there were concerns about land use conflict with neighbours and vehicle access from Corndale Road.

Several councillors wondered about having an eco-tourism facility in what is primarily grazing country.

The application will go before the council's December meeting.
