ARTS in August is holding weekly tours focusing on a different aspect of art and history in Lismore.
Each Saturday, Lismore City Council's resident tour guide Andrew Walker hosts a unique tour covering galleries, exhibitions, the private studios of local artists and public works of art.
A tour from 10am to noon on Saturday will focus on street and protest art, in the Back Alley Gallery and in local galleries.
A second tour on Saturday is being run for the kids, with Peggy Popart giving children an introduction to art at the Lismore Regional Gallery. This tour is free, although donations are gratefully received.
Then on Saturday, August 16 from 9-11am Robbie Braithwaite, of the Richmond River Historical Society, will host a tour of Lismore's historical buildings.
On August 23, a tour at 10am will provide exclusive access to the working spaces of artists across Lismore.
Visitors will see work including glassblowing, natural fibre art upholstery, 3D painting and fashion design.
"What we're trying to do is celebrate Lismore's plethora of artists by discovering the spaces where they create," Mr Walker said.
The tours start from the Lismore Visitor Information Centre at Heritage Park.
Tickets for the tours (excluding Peggy Popart's children's tour) are $5, or $10 including morning tea.
