AS Lismore City Council tourism and events manager, SCU graduate Mitch Lowe is involved in more than 400 local events each year.

The level of involvement can be anything from full-scale planning to overseeing an event, or simply providing advice to organisers.

It's a job that plays a pivotal role in influencing the region's economic and business community.

"Our organisation has a big influence on economic benefits for the business community, so attracting visitors to come to the region and holiday and spend money is important," he said.

"The attraction of events is great also from a business and community perspective … all those events are really great things for the community and are enjoyed by the people who live here."

Mr Lowe graduated from SCU in 2003 with a Bachelor of Sports Tourism Management.

After a stint in Brisbane working for Keith Prowse Sport and Entertainment Travel, Mr Lowe returned to his hometown to take up a job with REX airlines and then Lismore City Council.

Mr Lowe has been with the council for nine years. His job involves marketing and promoting Lismore, Nimbin and the villages domestically, nationally and internationally, as well as managing two visitor information centres.
