Mayor’s trip in Japan strengthens our union

LISMORE Mayor Jenny Dowell will return home today after a week of touring her town’s sister city, Yamato Takada, in Japan.

LISMORE Mayor Jenny Dowell will return home today after a week of touring her town's sister city, Yamato Takada, in Japan.

The tour follows the successful visit to Lismore by 50 community members, staff and students from Yamato Takada in August 2013 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Lismore and Yamato Takada sister city relationship.

As a result, Mayor Masakatsu Yoshida and Yamato Takada Sister Committee invited the Lismore mayor and general manager to make a reciprocal visit during cherry blossom season in April 2014.

The sister city relationship between Lismore and Yamato Takada is Australia's oldest sister city relationship with Japan.

The pact between the two cities was signed on August 7, 1963, and stated 'The horizons of this contract, this friendship, are not just the two Cities, but the Motherlands, Australia and Japan.'

Ms Dowell has been posting regular photos and updates from her sister city tour on social media.
