LISMORE'S Cedar Log Memorial is set to have new life as a public art piece on the corner of Molesworth and Bounty Streets near the main entrance of the upgraded City Hall.

The lucky log is expected to be relocated from its current site between Bounty St and Ballina Rd within the next two weeks, refurbished and provided with a series of panels depicting the cedar cutting origins of the region.

As part of the City Hall upgrade funding, Lismore City Council has $60,000 to spend on a public art project.

Consultation will also be given to including Aboriginal art at the site, although an earlier proposal to have a section of the log carved by local Aboriginal artist Digby Moran was put on hold following concerns that the move could be "mixing histories" and possibly create "conflict and misinformation" in the community.
