Lismore votes to approve rural dual occupancy

LISMORE councillors also vote for delay in recycling centre move and for leash-free area at Riverside Park.

LISMORE City Council has voted 11-1 to apply to the NSW Planning Department for key changes to its Local Environmental Plan which will allow detached dual occupancy in rural areas.

The change is seen as a critical step for the continuation of farming in the region, allowing farmers with diminishing incomes a second income stream from a rental property.

Last night councillors also voted to put the proposed relocation of Lismore's current recycling centre to Zadoc St on hold due to strong community concern from residents in Zadoc St and Little Keen St.

Council will now have a workshop to discuss alternatives sites.

Council also approved a leash free area for dogs in Riverside Park, and requested a report on another leash free area in Goonellabah.
