An elderly Lismore cleaner punched a police officer in the face three times and kicked another officer in the groin after they stopped her from driving home from Wollongbar Tavern while drunk.

Katherine Louise Ogle faced Lismore Local Court this week where she pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting a police officer without causing actual bodily harm and resisting police.

Court documents state police were called to the pub following reports the 66-year-old was refused service because she was drunk.

Police were told she had fallen and hit her head about 11pm on August 4.

Officers found Ogle in the hotel’s car park with blood stains on her knees and a forehead graze.

She became “disgruntled” and “frustrated” when she saw police and asked a witness, “why the f--k did you call them? What the f--k have you done,” documents state.

Ogle said to the police officers: “F--k off I’m leaving.” She was “infuriated” when police called the ambulance and an officer prevented her from getting into a car.

“Get the f--k out of my way, I’m driving home,” she said.

When the officer told Ogle she could not drive, she punched him in the face three times.

Ogle was restrained but still managed to kick the other officer in the groin.

Documents state that she thrashed around before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital.

Ogle’s lawyer Rennie Anderson said she was recently released from a rehabilitation centre and had planned to gamble at the pub.

“It was not her intention to drink,” she said. “She has no recollection of the night.”

Ms Anderson said her client apologised to the officers two days after the incident and had attended alcoholics anonymous meetings.

Ogle worked as a cleaner and will go on the pension next month, Ms Anderson said.

Magistrate Danielle Mansour said the offending happened when Ogle was under the influence of alcohol and her behaviour was reckless.

“It would have been a wake up call,” she said.

For the first count of assaulting a police officer, Ogle was convicted and sentenced to a community correction order for a year.

Olge was fined $440 for the other charges.
