Lismore ditches 'daggy' entrance signs for bright new look

NEW gateway signs will be erected at the seven major entrances to Lismore over the next few weeks

The old blue hoop signs were daggy and it was high time the entrances to the city were graced with some new, attractive signage, Lismore City Council Tourism and Events Manager Mitch Lowe said

The signs feature the word Lismore with a love heart, and represents the city's geography and size - the "heart" of the Northern Rivers- as well as its people, Mr Lowe said

The new signs were being made by the council's sign shop for a total cost of $30,000.

"In the very expensive world of signage we have developed something simple, inexpensive and classy that also promotes our 'Lismore' brand to locals and visitors," Mr Lowe said.

"We are updating all seven signs at once to ensure a consistent look from all approaches to Lismore. We will also repaint our roundabouts in a new colour scheme of red, white and black to match the new gateway signage, and this should begin later this year.

"This change is long overdue. The gateway signs are the first thing visitors see when they drive into the city. It's important to make a good first impression and promote our destination brand."

Mr Lowe said the signs were intended to "celebrate our diverse and colourful community, which is the real heart and soul of our city and what truly makes this is a special place".

All seven signs were expected to be finished by the end of October.
