Lismore councillors vote not to oppose Pacific Hwy route

THE majority of Lismore councillors voted not to oppose the proposed Pacific Highway upgrade route despite concerns about the region’s koalas.

THE majority of Lismore councillors voted not to oppose the proposed Pacific Highway upgrade route between Broadwater and Ballina despite concerns about the effect it could have on the region's koalas.

Cr Simon Clough had moved a motion to write a letter to NSW Premier Mike Baird and others, expressing the concerns about the proposed route and the effect it could have on the local koala population.

However, last night at Lismore City Council's meeting, the motion failed, with councillors Jenny Dowell, Isaac Smith siding, Greg Bennett, Graham Meinke, Mathew Scheibel and Neil Marks voting against the motion.

Cr Clough, Vanessa Ekins, Glenys Ritchie, Ray Houston and Gianpiero Battista, voted for the motion.
