INSTEAD of contributing to the immense amount of landfill created by nappies each year, now parents have another option, with Gently eco nappies now available to be bought from the Lismore City Council's CBD office.

The Gently system include reusable fabric shells and eco-disposable inserts that are fully compostable in Council's green organics bin, and so don't contribute to the hundreds of thousands of nappies sent to landfill each year.

Lismore City Council waste collections coordinator, Kevin Trustum, said as well as being easy to use, the nappies are also easy to dispose of - you simply place used nappies in a biodegradable nappy sack or bag (also available from the Save n Waster Recycle Store), wait until the bag is filled, then toss them into the your green organics wheelie bin - which is collected every week as opposed to the regular garbage bin which is collected fortnightly - which helps with the smell.

He said the nappies are also reasonably priced - around the same amount as regular nappies from the supermarket.

Gently eco nappies along with many other items to help reduce your ecological footprint are available at the Save n Waste Recycle Store and Resource Recovery Collection Station at the CBD Office, 55 Magellan Street, Lismore.
