A Northern Rivers man who was tasered twice before being arrested at a Goonellabah home in April has learned his fate in court.

Joshua Paul Federici, 42, of Coraki, appeared before Magistrate Michael Dakin in Lismore Local Court on Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty to contravening an AVO, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

The court heard Federici was in the loungeroom of a Goonellabah home on April 23 when an argument broke out.

The court heard the row escalated and triple-0 was dialled.

While that call was made, the female occupant picked up a 20cm kitchen knife, holding it to her wrist in a bid to quieten Federici who was yelling.

He left the room and she threw the knife, hitting a wall.

When Federici returned he picked up the knife and waved it about in an aggressive manner, court documents state. He was asked to drop the knife.

“If you take one more step towards me I am going to cut you with it,” he said, police facts state.

The court heard Federici moved into another room, dropped the knife, and refused to open the door.

When police arrived they found him sitting at the dining room table.

Federici became agitated, refusing to be handcuffed and thrashing about, police facts state.

He was twice tasered, handcuffed and taken to Lismore Police station.

Magistrate Dakin convicted Federici, sentencing him to a two-year community correction order.

A renewed apprehended violence order was also made against him for a period of two years.
