An asbestos removalist who allegedly smashed a bottle over another man’s head has been granted bail.

Casino man Jamie Charles Gunnis, 26, appeared in Lismore Local Court on Monday charged with domestic-violence related reckless wounding over the weekend.

A charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm was also brought before the court.

Police allege Mr Gunnis injured an acquaintance by hitting him with a bottle on West St, Casino about 11.15pm on August 6.

Magistrate Jeff Linden said the alleged victim suffered a number of injuries, including a laceration to the forehead which required three stitches.

Solicitor Tenika Vakauta said Mr Gunnis had only known the other man for six months through his partner who he had a “very good and strong relationship” with.

She said Mr Gunnis had attended Casino police station voluntarily following the alleged attack and would reside on the northern side of Casino if given bail.

The court heard if Mr Gunnis was found guilty he could face jail time.

Mr Linden granted bail on the conditions Mr Gunnis abstain from alcohol, follow a 9pm-5am curfew and report to Casino police station each Wednesday.

He adjourned the matter until August 18 at Kyogle Local Court for a plea to be entered.
