Helicopter team ‘softly, easily’ retrieves crashed ultralight from paddock near Lismore

An ultralight plane which was forced to do an emergency landing in a paddock near Lismore this week has been removed from the crash site.
And it was done in spectacular fashion.
According to Bill Kiernan from the Northern Rivers Aero Club, the student pilot flying the Jabiru ultralight on Thursday, June 24, did everything right when the engine malfunctioned.
He remained cool, calm and collected and was able to land in a paddock at Tatham.
No-one was injured and there was very little damage to the ultralight.
On Friday, the team from Rotorwing Helicopter Services at Lismore was dispatched to retrieve the aircraft from the paddock.
They posted a video of the operation to their social media pages.
“Today we picked up a small aircraft that had an emergency landing into a nearby field,” they wrote.
“When access and load sizes become difficult, do not discount the idea of using a helicopter.
“We can lift pools, mini excavators, water tanks, building material including large trusses and much more.
“We hope this video demonstrates how softly and easily these loads can be delivered.”
Mr Kiernan said they would do investigations to determine what happened with the Jabiru’s engine.
