Firefighters worked for almost three hours last night to contain a gas leak at the Boral plant in Alstonville.

Four fire trucks carrying sixteen firefighters attended the plant on Gap Rd after a call for help was received at 5.39pm.

They found three large gas cylinders, each containing 6000L of LPG, were leaking.

Firefighters worked until 8.17pm to contain the leak.

Residents reported on social media the road was blocked, and there were “emergency vehicles everywhere”.

Boral’s website says its Alstonville Asphalt plant ceased regular operations at the end of July 2020.

The website says: “It is no longer open for sales, while production will only occur in support of any major customer projects”.
