Lismore Fire Station Officer Ian Grimwood said his station was called to the site at 1.30am and arrived to find the house ablaze.

“The building structure was fully involved,” Mr Grimwood said.

“There were reports that an injured woman was in the rear lane. I’ve sort of found that out after we arrived and probably at the same time the second police car arrived.

“I got them to go around and look after the injured lady, who then ended up being transported to hospital by ambulance.”

NSW paramedics attended to a 27-year-old woman to assess third degree burns to her arms and leg and smoke inhalation before transporting her to Lismore Base Hospital.

She woke to find her bed alight and scrambled from the house in time to watch all her and her brother owned go up in smoke.

Mr Grimwood said the blaze was impacting an adjacent timber home and steel fabrication shed.

“They were getting impacted by flames and radiant heat so we protected them and stopped any further damage to those two buildings.

“About 10 – 12 people self evacuated prior to our arrival and once we got the fire out, they were obviously allowed to go back home when it was safe to do so.

“We got back to the station about around four o’clock.”

The fire destroyed the old Lismore Police Station built in 1910.

The blaze is not being treated as suspicious.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family.
