Council wants you to tell them about your health

LISMORE City Council is urging residents to help plan for a strong, adequate health workforce into the future by completing a short online survey.

LISMORE City Council is urging residents to help plan for a strong, adequate health workforce into the future by completing a short online survey before February 11.

Council has recently partnered with St Vincents Private Hospital and North Coast Medicare Local to host a workshop in March that will examine health workforce challenges in the region, such as an ageing population and the increasing number of health workers retiring.

The project partners would like to hear from current students, jobseekers, employees and contractors as well as people who have left the workforce, in any field, during the last 12 months.

The partners would like to get an idea of how to encourage more local people to participate in the health workforce.

Information from the survey will be presented at the March workshop, where the partners will look at finding innovative solutions for overcoming a potential future shortfall in health sector workers.

The workshop will include regional stakeholders such as health employers, educators, trainers, employment agencies, consumers, employees and jobseekers.

"We could potentially have a shortfall in health sector workers in the future if we don't address the issue now and look at future-proofing our health workforce," Council's Economic Development Manager Mark Batten said.

"That means encouraging more local people to enter the health workforce or facilitating people to retrain for a career in our local health industries."

"What we need to know is the barriers and challenges to people entering the workforce so we can address those and have a healthy crop of new employees ready to begin work and replace those workers who are nearing retirement."

People have until February 11 to complete the survey, which takes around 10 to 15 minutes.

Respondents can choose to do the survey anonymously or leave details and go in a draw to win $100 cash.
