TROPICAL Fruits Inc and Lismore City Council have been awarded a Keep Australia Beautiful Beverage Container Recycling grant.
An $8360 grant was provided to Lismore Gay and Lesbian organisation Tropical Fruits and its annual New Year's Eve Festival towards a greener, waste-wise and more sustainable future.
The community group has established You Can, a strategy to manage the waste generated by the 5000-person party.
Lismore City Council received an $8500 grant to install public place recycling bins at Lismore Shopping Square to assist in collecting recyclable packaging.
The grants, funded by Coca-Cola, were open to all communities across Australia with up to $10,000 available per applicant, for projects that could demonstrate they would result in a measurable diversion of beverage containers out of landfill.
