One Northern Rivers sports club could soon see a long overdue facility upgrade after a strong ground roots campaign.
The Nimbin Headers Football Club recently submitted a development application to have new lighting installed into their 40 Cecil St field which went onto exhibition.
The Football Club hosts two women’s teams and three men’s teams plus juniors with a total of 229 registered players.
According the development application, currently teams must train within half of a pitch as that is all that is able to be lit by the existing lights.
“Nimbin Headers are the only team of the 24 Far North Coast Teams that does not have ‘game quality’ lighting,” the application read.
“The proposal will allow a valuable community asset to be better utilised as Nimbin’s population and that of the Headers Football Club continue to grow.”
The submission was made possible after a fierce lobbying campaign, which included “door knocking” and the gathering of signatures of support”
The six lighting poles would illuminate two fields and would be directed away from adjoining residential land.
Proposed drainage works were also considered under the development application to allow for better drainage of the site.
