LISMORE City Council is seeking feedback on its draft Sustainable Economic Development Strategy 2020 which is now on public exhibition.

A first for any regional city in NSW, the draft strategy takes a quadruple bottom line approach to provide a vision for economic development in the future that aligns with the community's stated environmental, social and cultural wants and needs around building sustainable livelihoods.

Council's business facilitator, Mark Batten, said the report was an evidence-based document that took into account local community consultation processes such as the Lismore Community Sustainability Forum attended by 230 people, the Sustainable Nimbin Community Plan, and the Business Retention and Expansion survey.

Over 800 people have participated in numerous consultations over the past 12 months.

"The (strategy) sets out a tangible framework and priorities for the next seven years… Council now has a world's best practice blueprint for sustainable economic development which has been tailor-made for Lismore city to 2020," Mr Batten said.

"The report looks at flagship projects that progress the stated vision of how residents want to see their city evolve into the future and looks at how to encourage jobs growth.

"Often projects link to one another… attracting people to the CBD is identified as vital and there is a project that looks at building an A-grade commercial office block to stimulate economic activity in the CBD.

"There are a great variety of initiatives that collectively work toward the community's shared sustainable economic vision."

The draft Sustainable Economic Development Strategy 2020 is on public exhibition until November 16.

Copies of the draft are available for viewing at Council's Corporate Centre, 43 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah, and Council's CBD Office, 55 Magellan Street, Lismore, from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm throughout the exhibition period.

Alternatively, copies can be viewed on Council's website via the 'Have Your Say' section.
