Coles super workers rewarded

SIX Coles Lismore employees boasting between 10 and 25 years with the supermarket were yesterday rewarded for their long service.

SIX Coles Lismore employees boasting between 10 and 25 years with the supermarket were yesterday rewarded for their long service.

Lismore resident, ordering officer Kerrie Campbell was recognised for her 25 years with the supermarket, service that she plans to continue.

“Coles was my first job out of school and I have been here ever since,” Ms Campbell said.

“I started off in the office for many years and I have worked in nearly every department now but I enjoyed the office most.

“I have made a lot of friends by working here and I do enjoy coming to work each day.”

Employees who reached the 25-year mark were rewarded with a bunch of flowers, a shiny gold watch and a fine dining experience compliments of the store manager.

Kim McIntyre from Lismore was also awarded for her 25years of commitment, which she says has given her so much more than just her current senior position as second in charge of service.

“Before coming to Coles I used to work in a nursery where I was cutting up mango seeds so you can imagine why I changed jobs,” Ms McIntyre said.

“I love the people here they are like my big extended family. I look forward to getting up and coming to work.

“I’ll continue working here indefinitely.”

Staff from the Coles store attended the recognition of the long-term employees, all dressed in purple to signify World Purple Day, which creates awareness about epilepsy.

Epilepsy is a subject close to store manager Dale Anderson’s heart, having been diagnosed with the illness only a few years ago.

The 49-year-old was diagnosed following a seizure, after which he lost all feeling in his legs for two weeks.

“I had no idea middle aged people could be diagnosed with epilepsy until I was,” Mr Anderson said.

“World Purple Day aims to create awareness about the disease and encourages people not to be embarrassed about it.”

While giving a speech to his long term employees he thanked them all ‘for supporting and understanding him’ since he was diagnosed.
