A man has been tasered by police and charged after he allegedly came at officers with a knife following a pursuit in the state’s north.
Richmond Police District were patrolling Centre St, Casino when they tried to stop a Kia sedan about 6.45pm on Saturday.
“When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated before being terminated due to safety reasons,” NSW Police said in a statement on Monday.
“A short time later, the vehicle was located on Churchill Crescent. The male driver of the car allegedly approached officers armed with a knife.
“Officers deployed a Taser and the man was arrested.”
The 35-year-old man was taken to hospital under police guard for assessment.
On Sunday, the man was released from hospital and taken to Lismore Police Station, where he was slapped with an array of charges.
He has been accused of escaping police custody, breaching an apprehended violence order (AVO), stalking/intimidating and police pursuit/not stop/drive dangerously.
He has also been charged with intimidating police, having a knife in public and two counts each of hindering or resisting police and using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.
The man was refused bail to face Lismore Local Court on Monday.
He was again refused bail to appear before Grafton Local Court on Tuesday.
