The North Coast’s favourite film festival is set to delight audiences this year should Byron Bay Council allow a new development application to proceed.
Lodged at Byron Shire Council by Planners North on behalf of the Byron Bay film festival, the project includes a land application for the temporary use of ground comprising part of the rail corridor in Byron Bay Town Centre.
An information and education facility comprised of a 10 x 10 metre dome along with two ancillary structures are to be constructed by the Dome company.
Inside the domes will be panel focused workshops; screenings and performances associated with digital innovation, and the showcasing of information through immersive and emerging technologies.
The proposed use will include information sessions, masterclasses and panel discussions.
The ancillary smaller dome or teepee structures will also be located to the south of the main dome, used in a similar manner and to also house ancillary equipment such as virtual reality helmets.
The proposed domes will be open between 10am and 11pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday October 28-30.
Access to the functions within the structures will be ticketed with a maximum of 60 persons allowed inside at any one time.
The Byron Bay Film Festival plans to seek approval on an annual basis for a further period of three years.
