Brendan Castle: Lismore man on drug, prohibited weapon charges

A Lismore man has pleaded guilty to drug supply and possessing a taser after he was arrested over the weekend.

A Lismore man has been arrested after four months on the run for a Casino drug supply.

Brendan Castle, 45, appeared via videolink in Lismore Local Court on Monday (September 5) for the drug supply which took place back on May 16, 2022.

He pleaded guilty to dealing with money believed to be the proceeds of crime, supplying a prohibited drug, possessing or using a prohibited weapon without permit, and possessing a prohibited drug.

Castle was seen by police crouching in front of a car door near the Casino RSM at about 7pm back in May, court facts state.

A nervous Castle with red and “glazed” eyes was with a female when police said they believed him to be carrying drugs - at which point he fled, facts state.

He could not be located but police searched the car and seized a black Adidas waist bag containing a black Briday 928 model taser, a clear bag with 37g cannabis, six other small bags of cannabis, $300 in cash and a bag with sticker labelled “Endone Lismore Base Hospital, Brendon”, court facts state.

Police tested the bag which matched Castle’s DNA.

Officers attended a Gardner Ave address on Saturday, September 3, where they were greeted by Castle who was then arrested, court facts state.

Upon interview, Castle said the taser had been placed in the bag to set him up and that the cannabis and cash were not his, the facts state.

Castle attempted to interrupt his solicitor numerous times on Monday, calling the court a “kangaroo court” and the charges “bullcrap”.

“This is a joke though you know what I mean?” he said.

A sentencing assessment report was ordered for Castle and the matters were adjourned for sentence on October 24.
