Idiots can go to great lengths to desecrate the rainbow symbol but they can never destroy our resolve, our solidarity our ironclad will and determination to shoulder on! Original story: LISMORE Mayor Isaac Smith has hit back at those responsible for the graffiti - which alluded to a Bible reference - on the town's new and long-awaited rainbow walkway.

The walkway was completed a few weeks ago but now has in black paint 'Gen 9:13' across it: "I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth".

Cr Smith said "I would encourage them to read Proverbs 25:28 - 'A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls'.

"It's a hard task preventing graffiti and vandalism to public property.

"All acts of graffiti are damaging public property and it's extremely disappointing when council have worked hard to bring something to the community to have something like this happen.

"If these are Christians who want to put forward a cause I really think they should think about their actions and I believe the rainbow symbol is a sign of peace and love for all people and should be respected without anyone claiming particular ownership.

"It will be cleaned up soon but I think it's important for people to realise you don't have to take meaning away from others to make meaning for yourself."
