Ballina Road: Woman taken to Lismore Base after reported telegraph pole crash

A woman in her 70s has been taken to hospital after police and ambulance attended the scene of a crash on a busy Northern Rivers road.

Traffic is backed up for several kilometres after police rescue and ambulance attended a car crash on Ballina Road near Lismore.

Police Rescue units and NSW Ambulance were notified of a car accident on Ballina Rd just before 1.30pm following reports of a car hitting a telegraph pole.

The accident reportedly involved just one car which hit the pole causing a power outage on nearby High Street.

A woman in her 70s was taken to Lismore Base Hospital following the accident.

Police began directing traffic at the busy roundabout near Rotary Drive and Kellas Street with cars backed up onto the hill towards Lismore.

Residents attempting to make their way to Southern Cross University to vote at a pre-poll booth were also bring prevented from entering the area via Kellas Street.
