A man is still in ICU after a head-on crash near Ballina last week, investigations continue

Police have asked the public to come forward with any information or dashcam footage that may shed light on how the tragic crash occurred.

An horrific crash near Ballina last week that left a man in intensive care has been declared a critical incident, and is being investigated.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident that occurred following a police pursuit near Ballina last Friday.

At about 7.35pm on May 7, officers attached to Richmond Police District attempted to stop a vehicle on the Pacific Highway, Ballina.

When the vehicle failed to stop a pursuit was initiated but was terminated a short time later.

The vehicle and a truck were then involved in a head on crash south of the Bruxner Hwy interchange.

The male driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being flown to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in intensive care.

A critical incident team from Coffs-Clarence Police District has commenced an investigation into all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.

As a part of their inquiries, police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or has dashcam footage from the area at the time, to contact detectives at Coffs Harbour Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
