41-year-old Gold Coast woman convicted of malicious damage and assault after Bangalow incident

A woman has been convicted of charges including malicious damage and assault after an incident in Bangalow’s main street this week.

Tweed-Byron Police District Acting Inspector Christopher Neaves said the 41-year-old had tried to enter a licensed venue in Byron Street around 6pm on Wednesday, June 23.

The Gold Coast woman was refused entry.

“The offender damaged a door and walked across Byron St where she assaulted an

employee of a nearby food outlet,” Acting Inspector Neaves said.

“The woman was taken to Byron Bay Police Station and charged.

“She was refused bail overnight and appeared before the Lismore Local Court the next day. “The offender was convicted and sentenced to an 18 month community corrections order.”

Meanwhile, Tweed-Byron police are still seeking information about a terrifying attempted armed robbery which occurred at Cabarita Beach on Saturday morning.

Police were told two men, armed with handguns, forced entry into a caravan at the car park and threatened a man and woman, aged 35 and 30, as well as an eight-year-old girl.

Police said in a statement the armed males demanded the victims’ mobile phones and the vehicle’s keys before fleeing empty-handed in a customised flatbed ute or small truck.

They have both been described as being of caucasian appearance.

One of them is about 185cm tall, of a thin build and was wearing a fluoro jacket, while the other is about 175cm tall, of a medium build and was wearing a dark hooded jumper.
