Two adults and an eight-year-old girl were allegedly threatened during an attempted armed robbery on the Tweed Coast this morning.
There was a high police presence at Cabarita Beach this morning following the incident and the car park at the popular surfing location was closed off by police for some time after a crime scene was established to investigate the incident.
Police from the Tweed-Byron Police District were called to the headland carpark about 5.20am, following reports of a robbery.
Police have been told two males, armed with handguns, forced entry into a caravan at the car park and threatened a man and woman, aged 35 and 30, as well as an eight-year-old girl.
Police said in a statement the armed males demanded the victims’ mobile phones and the vehicle’s keys before fleeing empty-handed in a customised flatbed ute or small truck.
The occupants of the caravan were shaken but they, and their pet dog, were uninjured.
Police are continuing their investigations into the incident and have appealed for help to find the two male they believe can assist with their inquiries.
They have both been described as being of caucasian appearance.
One of them is about 185cm tall, of a thin build and was wearing a fluoro jacket, while the other is about 175cm tall, of a medium build and was wearing a dark hooded jumper.
