Daley is ‘gone’ as Labor leader: Jones

Alan Jones used his platform on TV last night to hit back at Labor leader Michael Daley, following the pair’s explosive interview on 2GB in the lead up to the election.

Mr Daley threatened to sack Jones from his plum job on the Sydney Cricket Ground board when the pair clashed on the broadcaster’s show on March 5.

ALLEGED DRUG SYNDICATE WAS A ‘FAMILY AFFAIR’

Last night, while appearing on Channel 7’s election panel, Jones danced on the grave of Mr Daley’s premiership ambitions after it became apparent the Labor Party had lost.

The shock jock said Mr Daley ran an “appalling campaign” and should do the “honourable thing” by resigning from the leadership.

“There is no future for the Labor Party under Michael Daley’s leadership,” Jones said.

“The one thing he should do … is to take ownership of a crushing defeat and resign the leadership, and let the Labor Party make a fresh start because there is no future for the Labor Party under Daley’s leadership,” he said.

Not long after, Jones was also on Sky News, where he said Mr Daley ran a “woeful campaign” that resulted in voters drifting away from the party.

The comments put a full stop on the pair’s fiery disagreement on the Liberal Government’s contentious $729 million plan to rebuild the Sydney Football Stadium.

Jones serves on the board of the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust’s board. Mr Daley accused the board of exaggerating the safety risk of the SFS.

“That’s one of the reasons, Alan, I’m going to sack the board,” he said.
