Kings Cross strip club owner Ulysses Flevotomos banned from running pubs for life

Strip club king Ulysses Flevotomos has sipped cocktails with Christina Aguilera and partied with Tony Lockett after he kicked his 1300th goal. Now he’s banned from running nightspots for life.

Have lock-out laws made a difference to alcohol induced violence?

Strip club king Ulysses Flevotomos has sipped cocktails with Christina Aguilera, partied with Tony Lockett after he kicked his 1300th goal and raked in millions as the owner of former eastern suburbs nightspot Iguana Bar.

But the colourful Kings Cross identity’s career is in tatters after the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority this week slapped him with a life ban from running pubs and clubs. It means he can never return to the bar he built from the ground up.

Flevotomos’ problems started in August 2014 when he spent $1 million converting Iguana Bar into a strip club called Dollhouse.

Despite admitting that he “lacked experience” in running red light establishments during his 35 years in hospitality, he said Iguana Bar’s profits had been smashed by the imposition of the lockout laws in February 2014.

But what followed were unlawful visits to the club by Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Club associates, rampant cocaine use, regular flouting of G-string regulations and strippers and clients frequently involved in sex acts, according to the ILGA report.

According to documents two NSW Police senior constables went undercover to investigate the club in October 2016.

According to a NSW Police statement, a stripper said to the officers: “If you tip extra you can do anything, touch me anywhere, whatever you want baby”.

“During the private show one of the naked female dancers sat on both officers’ laps,” the statement, quoted in a ILGA document, said.

This was in direct contradiction of the licensing conditions imposed on the Kellett St establishment that prohibited physical contact.

Women were regularly observed without G-strings when off stage, which was another breach of the rules.

The two-month investigation ended in a raid by heavily armed tactical operations officers and dozens of uniformed officers with drug detection dogs.

Two men were charged with drug possession.

At the time Mr Flevotomos, 62, criticised the police, saying they “were treating people like animals”.

When contacted for comment by The Sunday Telegraph on Friday, however, he was much more reserved.

“At the moment there is no comment — that’s the way it is,” he said.

“But in due course you will find out.”

According to submissions to the ILGA, he does not have any personal criminal history of involvement in indecent acts, prohibited drug use or supply of prohibited drugs.

Police said he and Dollhouse have generated 13 written warnings, 12 penalty notices, 41 court prosecutions and 15 separate fines.

Mr Flevotomos paid about $39,000 in fines between 2014 and 2017, when he was both licensee and business owner.

He has since transferred the licensee role to Timothy Williams, although he remains the director and secretary of Iguana Bar and Restaurant Pty Ltd.

Mr Flevotomos has also been disqualified from being a close associate of a licence for 10 years, fined $10,000 and banned from ever going back to Dollhouse.
