The 31-year-old had been in custody since she was arrested on Sunday, May 20 after police were called to a Brighton-Le-Sands home to find Gilbert Caetano, 51, unconscious.

On Monday the court heard Jade Walker will claim she acted in self-defence after she was charged with manslaughter over the death of her boyfriend.

Police officers arrived at the General Holmes Drive house about 1am following reports from neighbours of a domestic disturbance.

The first officers on the scene attempted to revive Mr Caetano but were unsuccessful with court documents revealing he suffered fatal injuries to his head and face.

During the bail hearing Magistrate Walsh told the court Jade Walker had put forward the possibility she acted in self-defence when she allegedly attacked Mr Caetano after allegedly breaking into his family home.

“In the statement of facts the issue of self-defence has been raised in the circumstance surrounding how the deceased ultimately came to be deceased and this will be an issue in the matter moving forward,” Magistrate Walsh.

“I can see those matters arising based on the facts and then material tendered by both parties.”

Following a police application Magistrate Walsh made orders for forensic procedures to be carried out on Jade Walker which included allowing police to take a blood sample, a fingernail scraping and photos of her body as part of police investigation.

A two year apprehended violence order was also granted against Jade Walker — under her given name Brodie Walker — to police on behalf of Mr Caetano’s mother Cristina.

Police did not oppose bail in court agreeing with Jade Walker’s defence lawyer Brenda Duchen that any concerns over bail could be mitigated through strict conditions.

“It is a clearly a domestic violence related incident and we do not think the curfew is necessary but if your honour thinks it is appropriate then we would not oppose it,” Ms Duchen told the court.

It is understood the 31-year-old was in an ‘on and off’ relationship with Mr Caetano who was living with his elderly parents.

All charges in the matter were dropped.
