A man charged with drug and firearm offences after a series of police raids in northern NSW allegedly uncovered a cannon, cannabis and a stash of guns has burst into tears in court.

Lloyd Herbert Death was slapped with 18 drug and firearm charges after three raids at Woodenbong and Stockyard Creek last week.

He was charged alongside co-accused Brian Andrew Maloney and Donna Mary Teague.

The searches uncovered a small cannon, ten guns, ammo, 247 cannabis plants, 830g of cannabis and vehicles alleged to be stolen, according to police.

The raids included Richmond Police District, Coffs Harbour RES, State Crime Command Raptor Squad and Dog Unit located and seized.

Death, 49, faced Grafton Local Court on Monday.

Police have alleged he played a major role in the drug operation.

Death faces charges including possessing stolen goods, possessing unregistered firearms, cultivating more than an indictable quantity of cannabis, not keeping a firearm safely, using or supplying a stolen firearm, possessing ammunition and supplying drugs.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Fairleigh said the matters were serious and there was a risk of Death offending again.

“He has blatant disregard for any laws,” she said.

Ms Fairleigh told the court Death’s criminal record was “littered with drug matters”, which did not help his case.

“It’s not his first rodeo,” she said.

Ms Farleigh said it was “concerning” death only finished his time on a conditional release order in December last year.

“He hasn’t learned a lesson,” she said.

Defence lawyer John Kelly told the court Death suffered from health problems including post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and bowel issues due to gluten intolerance.

He said Death co-operated with police and made admissions.

Mr Kelly said strict bail conditions could mitigate any risk of offending again, such as police reporting and a drug and alcohol ban.

Animals left at Death’s property needed care, the lawyer said.

Death cried as he pleaded for release, while his father sat in court supporting him.

“I've been having bad dreams … the dreams look like nightmares, extremely vivid and I can't stop dreaming during the day. This is part of my PTSD. Please,” he said over videolink from Clarence Correctional Centre.

Magistrate Juliana Crofts spoke of the severity of the allegations and said one gun charge alone could attract a 10 year non parole maximum sentence.

Death sobbed as he was refused bail.

The case was adjourned to Grafton Local Court on March 20.
