Yamba Road crash claims life of 19-year-old woman

A 19-year-old woman has not survived critical injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash at Palmers Island.

A 19-year-old woman has died in hospital from injuries sustained in a head-on crash on Yamba Road at Palmers Island.

Emergency services were called about 1.20pm Tuesday and found the teen, who was the driver and sole occupant of a Mazda, trapped in the vehicle.

She was treated by a doctor, who had stopped to render assistance, before being removed from the vehicle by emergency services.

The woman was flown to Gold Coast Hospital in the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter in a critical condition with injuries to her head, chest, back and pelvis.

Police said she died on Wednesday morning as a result of her injuries.

A 79-year-old woman who was driving a Toyota RAV 4 involved in the crash was uninjured.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
